A transformer's life expectancy is typically 30–40 years, but that lifespan is only achieved with proper ongoing maintenance. Transformers degrade slowly — moisture gradually increases, acidity builds, windings slowly insulate — until one day they don't. Routine maintenance with predictive diagnostics catches these trends early, allowing planned interventions that cost a fraction of emergency repairs and prevent unplanned outages. 01What Does Routine Maintenance Include?

Our maintenance program combines preventive and predictive elements:

  • Visual Inspection — Tank integrity (rust, oil leaks), bushing condition (cracks, contamination), conservator level, breather silica condition, nameplate and rating verification.
  • Thermographic Survey — Infrared scanning of bushings, connections, radiators, and cable terminations under load to identify hot spots indicative of loose connections or overloaded phases.
  • DGA Monitoring — Periodic dissolved gas analysis to detect incipient faults (arcing, partial discharge, thermal hot spots) before they escalate.
  • Insulation Testing — Periodic insulation resistance (IR) and polarization index (PI) measurements to track insulation degradation trends.
  • Oil Analysis — Full oil analysis package including DGA, breakdown voltage, moisture content, acidity (neutralization number), and furan analysis.
  • Tap Changer Maintenance — On-load tap changer (OLTC) oil testing, contact wear measurement, mechanism lubrication, and operational testing.
