On-Site Oil Services

Comprehensive on-site transformer oil services — conditioning, regeneration, filtering, and analysis — to maintain insulation integrity and extend transformer life.

Transformer oil is the lifeblood of oil-immersed transformers — it provides both electrical insulation and thermal cooling. Degraded oil leads to reduced insulation strength, accelerated paper aging, and ultimately transformer failure. Our on-site oil services bring the oil treatment plant to your transformer, minimizing downtime and restoring insulation performance to like-new conditions.

01What Do Oil Services Include?

Our oil services cover the full spectrum of on-site oil treatment:

  • Oil Conditioning — Simultaneous dehydration and degassing using vacuum dehydration units to reduce moisture content below 10 ppm and dissolved gas levels to acceptable limits.
  • Oil Regeneration — Hot filtration through activated alumina or silica gel filters to remove acidic compounds, sludge, and oxidation products that conditioning alone cannot eliminate.
  • Oil Filtering — Multi-stage mechanical filtration to remove particulate matter and improve clarity and dielectric strength.
  • Oil Sampling & Analysis — Comprehensive oil testing including DGA (Dissolved Gas Analysis), breakdown voltage, moisture content, furan analysis, and acidity measurement.

02Why Oil Quality Matters

Transformer oil degradation is the leading cause of insulation failure:

  • Moisture — Paper insulation at 0.5% moisture loses 50% of its mechanical strength compared to 0.1% moisture. Moisture in oil accelerates paper degradation exponentially.
  • Acidity — Acidic byproducts of paper oxidation corrode metal components and further accelerate paper degradation. A vicious cycle.
  • Dissolved Gases — Fault gases (hydrogen, acetylene, methane, ethylene) indicate internal arcing, partial discharge, or thermal overheating.
  • Dielectric Strength — Low breakdown voltage increases the risk of insulation puncture under transient overvoltages.

03Our Approach

We diagnose first, then treat — every oil service starts with thorough analysis:

1. Oil Assessment

Comprehensive oil analysis including DGA, breakdown voltage, moisture, furans, acidity, and interfacial tension to establish baseline condition.

2. Treatment Plan

Based on analysis, recommend the appropriate treatment — simple filtering, vacuum dehydration, hot regeneration, or a combination — and define acceptance criteria.

3. On-Site Treatment

Mobilize portable oil treatment plants for on-site conditioning or regeneration, minimizing oil handling and environmental impact.

4. Verification Testing

Post-treatment oil testing to verify acceptance criteria have been met. Compare with pre-treatment results and provide condition assessment report.

04Scope of Oil Services

Our oil services include:

  • Transformer Oil Conditioning — On-site vacuum dehydration and degassing for transformers from 1 MVA to 300 MVA.
  • Oil Regeneration — Hot filtration through activated alumina to restore oil chemistry, remove acids, and extend transformer life by 10–20 years.
  • New Oil Handling — Receiving inspection, filtering, and preservation of new transformer oil prior to filling.
  • DGA Trending — Establish DGA trending programs to detect incipient faults before they become critical.

05Standards & Compliance

IEC 60422 — Maintenance of Transformer Oil
IEC 60599 — Behaviour in Service
ASTM D3487 — DGA Interpretation
IEEE C57.104 — Guide for DGA

06Why H-Infinity

Our oil services team brings together field engineers with oil treatment equipment and laboratory analysts with advanced diagnostic capability. We've treated oil for over 300 transformers across the GCC, from small substation units to major power transformers at gas-fired combined cycle plants. Our DGA interpretation is based on IEC 60599 and IEEE C57.104 standards, and our conditioning results consistently deliver oil meeting or exceeding IEC 60422 acceptance criteria.
